Tara Foley was doing everything right—yoga, triathlons, farmers markets—then looked at her bathroom shelf. The ingredient lists told a different story. She asked everyone she knew: had they ever actually read what was in their skincare? No one had. The beauty industry hadn't updated its regulations since 1938. Tara saw that business could change what lobbying couldn't. She started a blog, apprenticed with a formulator in France, and opened Follain in Boston's South End.
